The former Northstar production footprint in Springfield Missouri has been significantly expanded and optimized, serving as a core pillar of EnerSys’ advanced manufacturing strategy. Rather than closing or downsizing the site, EnerSys integrated Northstar’s two Springfield, Missouri factories into its own global network to focus entirely on its premium Thin Plate Pure Lead (TPPL) battery technology. Northstar’s known battery lines are no longer produced. The former Nortstar facilities were transitioned to build EnerSys’ flagship brands, including Odyssey, NexSys, and SBS battery products. The company announced the closure of its legacy lead-acid battery manufacturing plant in Tijuana, Mexico, and relocated the majority of that production to the Springfield, Missouri facility. These restructuring efforts also allow EnerSys to maximize U.S. advanced manufacturing tax benefits, protect itself against international tariff risks, and strengthen domestic supply chain resilience.
